Phi Theta Kappa has recognized academic excellence in the two year college since 1918, and locally since 1970.  It is the largest and most prestigious international honor society serving two-year colleges around the world.

Potential inductees for full membership must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or greater, completed 12 credit hours in an associate degree program, and be currently enrolled in at least a one credit class at LCCC.  You must maintain at least a 3.00 GPA to remain a member.  If you fall below a 3.00 GPA, you have a probationary period of one semester to bring the GPA back above 3.00.

Although you must have a 3.25 GPA to be inducted and receive International benefits, you do not have to have that GPA to participate in the chapter activities!  We have a provisional chapter membership grade for all other students!  The chapter offers Provisional membership for those who have not yet met the GPA and/or credit hour requirements.  This means that you may participate, but may not vote, run for office, or apply for Phi Theta Kappa scholarships.  But, you, too, can be a part of the fun!

Potential inductees must also complete an application, pay $69 in dues ($45 International one-time only, $5 Ohio region one-time only, and $19 yearly).  During the time just prior to induction each fall and spring, the application and dues will need to be submitted in the Student Life Department on the second floor of College Center (through the wood door next to the elevator.)  They handle the money for the student organizations on campus. DUES AND APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED TO STUDENT LIFE AT THE SAME TIME! They will record the payment and give you a numbered receipt.  For some semesters there are "dues scholarships" for students with financial hardships.  If you feel you may qualify, the Student Life Office will have applications for the scholarship.

All students and their families are welcome to attend our meetings and activities, whether you are a member or not. We hold at least one business meeting and one general meeting each month. The meeting schedule will is announced via Yahoo Groups:

Inductions for full membership are held twice per year - in the fall and spring.  A keynote address and chapter awards are included in the induction dinner ceremony.  There is a charge for each person (including each guest) attending the induction dinner to cover the cost of the event.  The price will be announced as soon as details have been confirmed.  Student Life collects payment for the induction dinner also.  Attendance at the induction dinner is not a requirement to join.

We recommend becoming active prior to induction to take advantage of the Chapter Member Enhancement program, and to enjoy some of the many chapter activities.

Membership in Phi Theta Kappa provides many scholarship opportunities for transfer students.  Some schools have automatic scholarships just for being a Phi Theta Kappa member.  Check out the scholarship information at the Phi Theta Kappa International site www.ptk.org.  Additional sites to check are the Ohio Region site www.ohioptk.org and our chapter site www.ptkphipi.org.

Membership in Phi Theta Kappa will open new doors for your academic journey.  This organization offers a myriad of opportunites for scholarship, intellectual enrichment and personal development through programs based on Phi Theta Kappa's Hallmarks of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship.  Explore these pages to find everything you need to know about this local chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.
